2023 Homeless Count Results




Long Beach Releases Results of the 2023 Homeless Point in Time Count

On April 27th, the City shared the results of the 2023 Homeless Point in Time Count. Findings revealed that Long Beach identified 3,447 people experiencing homelessness in January 2023, compared with 3,296 people in 2022. This number signifies a 4.6% increase from last year, the smallest increase Long Beach has reported since 2019. For reference, homelessness increased 7% from 2019 to 2020.

New Emergency Shelter




City of Long Beach Opens Temporary Emergency Shelter for People Experiencing Homelessness

The City has officially opened a temporary emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness. The new emergency shelter opened on April 27 and holds more than 85 beds, offers a variety of onsite amenities and access to services, and will serve as a critical resource moving forward after the Community Hospital Winter Shelter concludes operations, per the lease agreement.

In addition to amenities including three meals per day, onsite showers and restrooms, an enclosed outdoor area and space for service animals and pets under 30 pounds, shelter participants will also have access to a variety of services, including housing-focused case management, screening for housing programs, referrals to year-round shelter programs, assistance obtaining identification and documents and connections to behavioral health resources. The nonprofit organization First to Serve Outreach Ministries will manage the shelter’s day-to-day operations.

Goodwill

Goodwill has teamed up with Foodbank of Southern California to host a free Mobile Food Pantry at their offices at 800 W. Pacific Coast Hwy in Long Beach on the 4th Thursday of every month.

They provide a variety of nutritious food and have representatives from their Workforce Development Program on hand for those who may be interested in their Job Training Programs. There will also be information regarding “Market Match Bucks” that can be used at local farmer’s markets.
